Thanksgiving is a time when we gather with friends and family to give thanks and enjoy great food together. Each year you create unforgettable memories — this year let Petal & Bean create a beautiful floral arrangement as the centerpiece to your thanksgiving dinner so you have a beautiful backdrop to accompany those memories.
What makes the perfect centerpiece, you ask? In the end it comes down to the tastes of the host, but we can offer some good tips on a great centerpiece for the summit county home this Thanksgiving.
First thing’s first, what shape is the table? Whether it’s a long table for 20 guests or a small round intimate table setting for four, this will determine the shape of your arrangement. For example, long, trailing florals look great on a long table while a round, more compact arrangement may look better on a smaller table.
Regardless of the shape of the table, you want to make sure you keep the centerpiece low. You do not want to have something that obstructs your view or conversation with other guests.
Another thing to consider that is often forgotten is what will go on the table. Are you serving the dishes family style or on a buffet? If family style, be sure not to get carried away on the decor and leave room for the side dishes.
Now for the florals! Being the winter wonderland that we are, we want to include beautiful fall colors such as vibrant yellows, rich garnet reds, and soft natural oranges. We also added a pop of ivory to soften the darker colors and give depth to the arrangement as well as incorporate different textures and shapes.
Thanksgiving is also about the harvest so we included pumpkins and gourds to highlight the important aspect of the holiday.
Next we have the flatware. This one can be a little more tricky as we all do no have beautiful dishes in our cabinets, but if you are looking to pull out all the stops then this a detail that should not be overlooked. You can mix a basic plate with a pattern or go with a nice charger or both — like we did! Our gorgeous flatware came from a local boutique, Ruby Jane’s.
We added a touch of a rustic and finished the flatware with a burlap napkin with a sprig of floral. We added color with the berries, but do not be afraid to add more color with a colored napkin. Our table scene would have also looked beautiful with a classic ivory napkin.
Last but not least, you want to include some natural soft lighting. This will heighten your other senses and enhance your dining experience. In our table setting we included mixed mercury glass with tea lights..
